A New Home for the Holidays
Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity Cuts Ribbon on New Home

All Things Leland was pleased to attend the ribbon cutting for a new Habitat for Humanity home in Shallotte. It was heartening to see the strong collaborative effort, with more than 25 organizations partnering with Habitat on the build and various organizations attending the ribbon cutting to support the new homeowner.
Habitat has built slightly more than 100 homes in the County. They are in the midst of building a ten home subdivision in Leland.
About the Organization
Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1993, and is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.
Their goal and mission is to end substandard housing. People from all walks of life are invited to work together with us to help build houses for those families in need. Their homeowners include young families with small children, single parents and those with disabilities.
How it Works
Homes are built with volunteer labor, tax deductible donations, and proceeds from their ReStore retail locations (including a location in Leland). Homeowners invest a substantial amount of time and sweat equity into building their own homes. The house is then sold to the partner family with a below market interest rate. Money collected from partner family mortgage repayments is used to help finance the construction of future Habitat homes.
