Leland area residents have recently started the Leland Area Garden Club. The organization was incorporated on February 26 and received 501(c) 3 Non-profit status April 2.
Their mission:
To inspire a love of gardening, conservation and environmental stewardship.
To enhance community beauty through education, volunteerism and partnerships.
To promote native plants, pollinators, bluebirds and healthy public landscapes.
Upcoming educational topics include:
Soil 101 and soil testing
Pollinator gardens
Native plants of southeastern North Carolina
Sensory gardening
Build-a-Bluebird Box workshops
“Our goal is to inspire people to discover the joy of gardening while making a positive impact on our community. Through education and hands-on projects, we hope to encourage stewardship of our natural resources and create a lasting legacy for future generations.”

The organization presented to the Leland Town Council at its July 16, 2026 meeting. You can find the Club on Facebook by clicking on the button. They are working on building a website.
It was my pleasure to speak with Bess Blackburn one of the leaders in the community that helped form the organization. Previously Ms. Blackburn was 12 year member of the Cape Fear Garden Club.
